1 January 2013

Welcome to the Amateur Astronomy observational weblog and a Happy New Year to you all.

As is normally the case, the weather conditions have not been ideal for observing this evening. Short breaks in the cloud have allowed a little naked eye observation of Orion and Jupiter, but no photographs.

Apart from the obvious calendrical significance, there has been no astronomical event of note today. Perihelion will occur at 04:38 GMT tomorrow and will be explained in greater depth in the next entry.
